The Distintegration of America
There was a time when I was very young and I remember how we respected the flag of these United States. We called it our flag as if it had more than just a piece of us, more than a piece of cotton on a stick. More than a simple symbol of a faith in our country. I was a Boy Scout for a short time and the care of the flag, how it was displayed and how it must be folded into a triangle was part of our training on which we were tested.
It was flown on holidays and must never touch the earth. It must not be flown after sunset. I believe this strict rule came over from England. I remember a long time ago hearing the expression that the sun never sets on the flag of England. Old flags that were torn or disfigured must be replaced with a full one to preserve the integrity of its image. We went to school and the first thing we did was Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. There were no dissidents who said they would not. If they felt that way they must have kept their disrespect still and would have been more than likely would have been sent to the principle.
In every home room to the classroom teacher’s right there was a large flag on a standard in the corner. We looked at it as though it was proper to have it there. We took it for granted and would have asked the teacher what had happened to it if it wasn’t in its place. Many rooms in one school building may have had a flag thus displayed as the room served as a home room for perhaps more than one home room. Home room was the classroom to which you were assigned as the first classroom of the day. I can’t remember having anyone complain about having to salute the flag in the first period.
The school always had a flag flying in front of the school building and it was considered an honor to be allowed to assist in its raising in the morning and taking it back down before sunset. If the weather was inclement the flag was not displayed. During the winter months it may have been dark before school let out so that the flag bearers were excused from their class to perform that chore. I don’t like that word “Chore”. It was an honor to be given that privilege of a flag bearer. We were expected to say the Pledge of Allegiance. As Boy Scouts, we were taught to salute the flag with our right hand brought to our forehead IF we were in uniform. If we were in civilian clothes we put our right hand over our heart during recital. The Pledge of Allegiance: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the country for which it stands.
The National Anthem was also sung at many occasions both in school and at various civic occasions. If there was an incident that required the mayor or other leaders of the city, it was normal to pledge allegiance and also to sing the National Anthem. I always felt a tightening in my chest and a proud feeling as I heard that song.
Now one has to go to a sports arena to hear it! We had baseball games then but they weren’t the massive affairs they are today. Some cities didn’t have baseball diamonds even for high school athletics. Lower grades always had recesses in the morning when we were allowed out on the play ground. Normally there was no regimented exercise but then young children rarely needed to be told to run and there was usually was a ball for those who wished to play catch. We were not allowed off the school grounds. There were no “hangouts” near the schools so there would never be enough time to go off the grounds and get a snack or get into trouble.
Truancy was frowned upon and the police were always watchful near the schools. Parents were called and had to come to the police station to retrieve a truent child. That was usually a big trouble for the parent and was sometimes written in the local paper. The children learned young that the police were very efficient in catching a youngster who slipped out of school.
It was also a time when the teachers were allowed to paddle a child if they needed it and sometimes they received a paddling at school and were paddled when they went home with a note.
Woe be to the kid who failed to give the note to the parent for teachers would check up on them by phone or have the parent sign the note and then little Johnny had to take it back to the teacher. Nearly fool-proof. Johnny sometimes was clever enough to sign mamma’s name but that was risky. The teacher’s communication with the parents was normally rather tight. Most of my teachers knew both my mother and father. It was a small town and we had these school nights where the parents got to fraternize with the teachers. That scared me!
There was none of the “sharing” days at that time. The communistic trend came into the schools later after I had graduated. It was true we studied the various governments slightly but the pressure to be a good American was so much stronger and well understood of the value we had in this country that even in college the foreign civics we studied were dispensed as an inferior governing practice. Freedom was given a higher grade than slavery under a dictator or a
tribune. I am thankful I never attended the colleges that today are labeled as traitor classrooms for unrest and civil disobedience. They know who they are and are properly labeled as part of the cancer that is eating at the root of America.
It is too bad that so much of our ruling members have not read the history of how Hitler became powerful enough to think he could rule the world and thus plungee us into a conflict that was the depths of heinous action on the part of the Axis. They destroyed a full generation and the ripples from that holocaust still are washing over the world. The financial destruction alone may never be paid off.
The loss of resources alone will someday be showing up the products must have. What will be the cost of the aluminum and steel that went down in the Pacific Theater alone be felt in our economy? The billions of dollars and millions of lives is a high price to pay. Today that distrust of the government is felt in the answers to the Islam slam into New York and Washington. Many still will not allow the Pledge or the flag in schools. What a shame upon our proud forefathers who founded the very liberties that our enemies are wresting from us! Can we even accurately state how much such a tremendous effort to defeat the forces against democracy has cost this United States? Our precious supplies of oil were burned up in tanks, warships, planes and reserves were depleted to fight a war thousands of miles from American soil.
We further deplete our treasury by trying to bolster foreign economies and they use that money to buy arms with the express purpose of destroying our country and our freedom and our very basis of the government that has made us the greatest nation in the world. They corrupted our schools first and undermined our morale and our future generations by denying the teaching of our way of life.
Why do we not stop this cancer from growing within us?
There are dissidents within our own governing body who are systematically whittling at the Constitution further the decay of even the life of the governing body. There hasn’t been a better governmental process as was set up by our founding fathers and for three hundred years it has been strong enough to fight wars against the rot that destroyed many nations before us. The Constitution was given us by some of the greatest men who ever wrote a document.
Why do we allow it to be torn to pieces?
Don’t dare call it obsolete and try to replace it with communistic ideals used to be our guide. A lesson should have been learned from watching Russia in her despotic attempt to prove a form of government that sorely taxed her very existence to the point of financial ruin at a great waste to the entire world. They are a people who were first to put an orbiting satellite into orbit and followed us to the moon and also developed the atom bomb. Granted, it came from our own people who gave it away for greed. But it still was quite an achievement. They have also pioneered in medicine and mathematics. Some of our own books credit them with discoveries in physics.
I have watched the schools eliminate the saying of prayers in schools.
Why? This lovely land was dedicated to serving God and grew great under His providence but gradually He was shoved into disuse. Why? Can’t the people see His hand in the development of our very government?
Even our motto is (or was!) In God We Trust! It is on our coinage and used to be on our schools and in our hearts! When you abandon your Father who can you turn to? You begin to falter in a morass of indecisiveness and stupidity for His hand used to guide you to greatness. Now you can see the disintegration of our monetary system and our businesses which no longer have the vitality and the sureness of steady growth. Each of them are corrupted from within for they trust not in God but their own inadequateness. The leaders are no longer leaders but greedy mongrels chewing on their own bodies. They have no way to go but down.
Why do we, who used to be the greatest nation in the world have to farm out our production to foreign countries for inferior products? It is obvious that we have allowed our ingenuity and our cleverness and our ambitions to stagnate. We sold Japan our rails and our iron and steel for pennies and they turn around and shell our Islands and might have invaded us for we were wide open for an invasion. We have neither the intelligence nor the will to protect our country. We live in ignorance because of our remoteness. But we are no longer isolated by distance! The greed of the world manufactures increasingly long range missiles to destroy our cities and our people. They care not for the Geneva Convention which by now is a laughable group of ancient men who planned to do away with war and cruelty and greed by saying “Thou shalt not kill your enemies nor their people nor anyone you capture.” Iraqi insurrection forces deliberately kidnap and behead even innocent persons sent over to help them. Oh but we cannot bomb their citizens! No, Big Daddy must abide by the rules. I sent a proposal to our government to destroy their fertile ground at ten acres each time they kidnap and behead anyone who tries to help them, but that would starve their people wouldn’t it? They are so unintelligent it might even backfire by sending more people-bombs at us! I wonder if they watched their children beg for food when it was too scarce would they think their Jihad was getting any where?
What rules govern them when they missilize their enemies whose religion isn’t the same as theirs? What incredibly cruel ideals are given to the fanatics who wrap their bodies with explosives and shrapnel to kill as many citizens, even their own, as they can? Does this even come under the sensibilities of a so-called civilization?
Are they really civilized? Their actions hark back to distant stone age thinking but are using modern weapons to carry out what they call a “Holy War.”
Where do they get the missiles and guns and munitions when we have a so-called embargo on them? What rival government is supplying them with explosives? I know about the fertilizer that was used in Oklahoma by one of our own traitors. I have never figured out what he gained by his murderous action.
Somewhere in our history a disastrous split occurred wherein a set of humans(?) took a left turn to follow Satan’s devious paths and have the audacity, or is it inhumanity to destroy what they say are the so-called “Infidels” in a mis-guided attempt to rule the world? Do they really expect us, as peaceful people to convert to their antiquated religious beliefs? Are we suddenly going to build mosques all over our country and ask us to become evil and fanatic in their Jihad? Granted there may be some who would follow that trend but let them be sent to Iraq, Now!
I read a magazine not too long ago that these malcontents believe that if they slaughter many people when they commit suicide that they go straight to Allah and are in a paradise surrounded with beautiful women! It sounds to me like a pipe dream of a sexually crazed unbalanced mind,
or is that giving a compliment to say that they have a mind?
It has been still in my recollection that Persia was actually becoming a modern, civilized country which gave the women the right to wear decent attire and to be able to even work if they had to. What happened? I know their leaders even came to the United States and were given a royal welcome by the government. Their Prince was a decent person whose intellect was cogent to our most educated statesmen. What happened to throw them back into an era of paralogistic cocoon?
According to the Koran, it states that (ii177) “. . . righteousness does not consist in formalities, but infaith, kindness, prayer, charity, probity and patience under suffering” What a sad difference from their actions.
